₪₪₪ Can back taxes be charged on a home with an improvement made 24 years prior that city was not aware of.?
A swimming pool was built on property 24 years ago. At the time the property was not annexed to the city. It was outside city limits. It was annexed a few years later. I was not aware my past tax assessments on my home did not include the improvement. My new tax assessment has the pool added as an improvement valued at $21,000 and the value of my home increased by 30%. I have a homestead exemption which normally caps any annual increased assessed value at 10% unless improvements have been made. I am reluctant to protest the assessed value because I have been told they could go back up to 5 years and charge for the improvement value.
