Jujitsu_fan – I am all for that. It would be fair for everyone. That way people would be able to make their own choice.
dardekkis – I’ve mentioned that fact before. (in the “immigration category”: We’re being taxed Federally, yet, our Constitutional rights to be protected from invasion [illegal immigrants, criminals, possible terrorists from the southern border] are not being upheld. That’s another issue, though)

When I compare my net income to my gross income, I am depressed.
Thanks Republicans!
The US has some of the lowest taxes in the world.
If you want no taxes, move to Haiti. I’ve heard that the weather is nice this time of year…….
All I know is, when I got my last check at my part-time job, I was taxed $73, even though I only grossed $470. I only made $470 and they took $73?? Is that fair?
I think most Americans feel they’re being over tax. Even the rich which is always in sight pay to much taxes. I think we need another tea party.
Yep, since taxes are constitutionally wrong in the first place.
Don’t do the Wesley Snipes thing. He claimed that he didn’t need to pay his taxes and got socked pretty heavily. The US would be better served with a ‘USAGE’ tax. Several members of Congress have tried to push this. It makes so much sense. You pay only when you consume SOMETHING. It would eliminate the IRS for individuals, because you’re taxed immediate when you buy something. This is how we ensure that everyone is taxed the same in the US.
Amen to needing another Tea Party…considering the job politicians are doing listening to the average taxpayer these days I think we could make a good argument for taxation without representation…
I understand that we all need to pay taxes, but what really pisses me off about paying taxes is the way that our government wastes our tax dollars, we pay for people who do nothing, they overpay for things, He77 we not only pay to have a president for how ever long he is in office but we pay him till the day he dies.
What is up with that, when I leave a job, I don’t continue to get paid, they are no better than anyone else, I say unemployment $300.00 a week for 6 months and then nothing else and just like the rest of us he needs to get another job.
If we got rid of all the free loaders and started paying fair market prices for things, we could clear our debt and would all have to pay less in taxes.
after buying car insurance yesterday and talking to the agent, we decided the government kinda creates criminals, they keep everything so high we cant possibly pay it all..
As a general comment, no – middle & low income americans do not have a valid argument that we are being overtaxed.
Everyone feels they are over-taxed. Working as a tax preparer for many, many years – I see people’s effective tax rates are generally less than 20% and once in a while I see 20 – 25% effective tax rates.
I really believe the government needs to cut the waste. We need to only fund those things which are absolutely necessary for the government to provide – such as the military, social security, disability, interstate highways, and things like that. Then let people fund other programs that they desire through donations. It is ridiculous that my tax dollars are spent on programs I may not agree with. If more things were funded voluntarily rather than through taxes we would have more money in our pockets and could support the things we want.
Instead people want the government to fund all sorts of programs but bitch about their taxes.
Absolutely!!! But the government is really a corporation – they need to make money too. They should take it from the ridiculously rich people though instead of the people struggling to make ends meet because the price of everything is going up while wages are staying the same. If the government would stop giving tax breaks to the upper class (which are the same people that are supporting their campaigns for stupid middle americans to vote for them) the classes wouldn’t be growing farther apart – there is no middle american anymore – there is only upper and lower class
There are some inequities, but people who earn more pay a higher percentage of tax. So (barring loopholes) the wealthy pay more tax in relation to their income than low/middle income taxpayers.
It doesn’t seem possible, but it’s true.
Everyone has a valid argument that they are over taxed. UPPER income Americans have more of a valid argument. They pay more taxes than lower or middle income Americans. This applies both to total dollars and to percentage.
