₪₪₪ How Do I Find Out Who an Email Address Belongs To? Two Ways to Identify the Harassing Emailer

Are you receiving harassing emails and wondering, “How do I find out who an email address belongs to?”  Sadly, there are many people out there dealing with this very issue.  It seems that as we advance technology for the good, there are those who take those advances and use it for ill.  Email is no different.

Some harassers may feel even more confident with this method since email can provide so much more privacy than a telephone can.  There are no requirements for accurate personal information when obtaining an email address, so you can get an email address and pretend to be anyone you want or can imagine.  

Thankfully, there are two ways you can discover who your harasser is when that person is using email to bother you.

Look at the full header of their email.  The default view for headers typically only shows the person’s email address but if you turn on full headers or show details in your email message, you can find the IP address for their Internet provider.  This can help determine where in the world the person is emailing you from.  There are some cases where IP addresses are faked, so it’s possible you could come up empty with this method. Use a reverse email lookup service.   You can do this yourself by using an online database to gather information about the person who owns the email address and then pass this info on to the local authorities to pursue the matter further.

Whatever method you choose, be sure to hang on to the email.  

Don’t delete it.  

This is evidence that can be used against the perpetrator to bring the person to justice.
