₪₪₪ How long does it *really* take for the IRS to process 1040X forms?
Back in March, we had an IRS levy on our bank account – we didn’t get the notices because they had my husband’s address wrong on the notices. Regardless, we went into our local tax office and sorted out the issue and they removed the levy and we re-filled 1040X forms for the years in question. IRS shows that they received these forms but can’t give an estimate on how long it should take for them to be processed. They give the standard “It can take up to 16 weeks” answer but I’m curious if anyone has had some first hand experience with how long it actually took? when all is said and done, there’s quite a bit of refund being tied up due to the errors and subsequent years’ refunds
BTW – Filed late because notices were being sent to an address my husband has NEVER lived at. I don’t expect them to rush – I’m just looking for info from others who have been in our shoes.
The answers I’m getting all sound like the official responses… I was hoping that someone here had gone through the same situation and was able to tell me how long it took THEM to get things finalized… Honestly, I don’t care because the interest owed to me keeps growing.
mrreliab… “filed late” because we weren’t aware that there was an issue – we filed timely every year… the 1040Xs were to correct errors we didn’t know about because we didn’t get the notices of delinquency
