I’m 23, Is it too late for braces?

I’m a 23 yr old female who has two children ( I didn’t know if that was important to say). When I was 9 yrs. old I got my 2nd set of baby teeth removed and my teeth were still too crowded. My two front teeth are pointed and my bottom teeth are also crooked. My mom was single with 3 kids and we barely made it by. While my dad was living it up with his 2nd wife and my step brother and sister. I’ve never had the money or my mom to fix my teeth. But now that I have two children I get a pretty hefty tax return and I am/was determined to fix my teeth. I was going to do it last year but I needed a car to get back and forth to work with. So this year I decided since I start college on Aug. 18, I want to be able to go to job interviews and feel confident and professional. With me having “messed up” teeth it makes me look like white trash. I feel shy and like I don’t want to talk in fear of being rejected or made fun of. So is it too late are these my teeth for the rest of my life or can they be fixed?
oh another thing I was wondering is… I’m a horrible teeth brusher as in I don’t do it as often as I should…When I get braces will the bracket part of my tooth stay yellow as I brush the other part? I’ve seen teeth like that before but they smoked (I’m allergic to smoke) Does it matter whether or not you smoke?

It’s not to late, but if you’re in the state of California, dental is no longer covered my most insurance and will be out of pocket, sadly =[

  3. Kat says:

u can get them done but you will have to pay for them, just ask your dentist x

Actually now is a perfect time to get them because your mouth is fully grown and they can straighten them really well. Also your old enough to take care of them properly. So go for it your confidence will sky rocket. :)

Im 21 with braces that I pay for out of pocket (yes you can make that tax return work wonders for you) I also have a 3 yr old….I say do it, you are a mother and if there is one really nice thing you can do for yourself, its fix your teeth….In the long run you will be more outgoing and you may even have better paying job prospects with nice teeth (we all know employers look at your personal appearance)…I suggest paying for them all at once so you can flow smoothly through your treament and have no hiccups along the way…I also suggest finding a dentist that provides a permanent retainer (a thin wire bonded to the back of your teeth so they NEVER move) b/c the removable kind are crap and your teeth will move and your money will be wasted also you will have to spit it out at everymeal (ewwwand its the same way with invisalign)…Also ask about their after care program bc some people’s teeth become a bit stained and its normal when you have braces…Will they make custom molds of your teeth and provide you with perscription whitening gel ?(im not talking about a crappy tube of extra strength flouride toothpaste) Shop around and if you can not find the last two things I mentioned in a dentist I would walk away (sometimes its worth paying just a tad bit more bc in the long run they may pay for themselves). Hope I helped!!!!!

i am 20 and about to do the same thing. ive struggled with crooked teeth as an insecurity my whole life. but i was watching the tyra show and i saw that invisalign costs about the same as braces and works for all kinds of teeth. i went to their website and did a self assessment thing and found out they will work for me. they usually have all different kinds of payment plans. id go to a website and check it out. i know im too insecure to be a mother with braces. i have really really crowded teeth and an overbite and they say it will work for me so itll probably work fo you too!

    u can put braces.
itz not too late for u!!!
it would be a bit irritating first but later it would be okay.

It’s never too late! I know someone in her 30’s who has braces, and I’ve seen people in their 40’s with them. You deserve them. Go for it!

It is not too late, you can get braces at any age above 7. We have a lot of adult patients, I would say about 20% of our patients are over 18. After braces you will have a lot more confidence and that will result in a better job. Make sure that you brush or rinse really good every time you eat or drink anything and that will prevent you from getting the white spots on your teeth. Smoking does not have anything to do with the spots. You can not whiten your teeth while you have braces on but after they are taken off ask your orthodontist or a general dentist to make you some bleaching trays. They are not too expensive to have professionally made and they are custom for your teeth. You can buy bleach off the internet (which is what I do and it is even cheaper than the discount my boss gets by ordering it from the company).

And just another suggestion…I would defiantly get regular metal braces rather than invisalign. Invisalign is great if it is just a very small adjustment you want made to your teeth but if its anything more than that you will be wearing the invisalign for what seems like forever!

    No!

No it’s not too late at all, trust me it will be a good investment and you won’t regret after. Now the brushing thing, you have to have good hygiene if you want braces or else you’re going to have more than yellow squares, you’re going to have huge plaque build up and that’d result into calculus. Also .. gingivitis! Bleeding and hurting gums! lol

Oh and yes it will stay that way, the tooth color under the bracket, and it might change but it isn’t hard to get rid of. If anything you could just whiten your teeth and it’d all be one color.
