By law, no creditor is allowed to contact you about your debts. At least in the US.

A friend of mine would refer creditors to his attorney. He would say, “My attorney now handles these calls. Let me give you his number.”

The calls stopped, funny enough. :)

Despite the fact they are now unable to sue you for the money, you still owe the money.

You can however inform them in writing that you wish no contact. They must honor that request.

are you sure they are ‘past’ statute of limitations?
Did you admit the debt at any point?
Advise the harasser that you do not want them to call anymore or else you wil report them.
    Google: Fair Debt Collection
to see what your rights are.

and don’t worry about not being able to pay your bills. I assume you had a good reason – like millions of others who have lost jobs and as a result, have lost homes, vehicles, etc.
Even Donald Trump had to file bankruptcy.
    Why?
Because he could not pay his bills.

    Good luck

Get in contact with the Federal Trade commission.Let them know the name of the Company contacting you as well as any info you may have on the supposed debt. What tends to happen is there are companies out there that purchase these debts that are no longer collectable and they try to collect under the threat of legal action. Submit a request for verification of the debt in writing to the collection company. Also check with the better business bureau and make sure that they are a reputable company. The Federal Trade commission can inform you of your rights and what actions need to be taken.
