Is it too late to re-file Income Tax Return for year 2002?
I have filed tax return for the past many years and either paid owed tax or received the refund.
But I would like to re-calculate the tax amount for year 2002, because I might have over paid the owed tax.
Is it possible to re-file that far back? Any penalty?
I have seen on TV commercials that Tax refund agencies like H&R Block can re-check the 2005 tax year and get your money back if you have overpaid.
For the year 2002, is it too late?
Does anyone know?

Any refund that you might have been entitled to for 2002 is no longer available to you, You had until April 15th of 2006 to file an amended return and claim any refund
No, contact your local IRS center and they will send you the forms you need to amend your return. Or you can have an accountant help you.
You can amend your 2002 return, but it’s too late to get any refund that you had coming. You can only get the refunds for three years after the original due date.
too late – it’s beyond the statue of limitations
Don’t go to H&R Block – they are expensive and incompetent
It’s too late to correct a 2002 return and get a refund as a result. Claims for refunds normally must be filed within 3 years of the due date of the return, so the deadline for 2002 was April 15, 2006. Threre is an exception for securities that were declared worthless or for uninsured losses due to insolvency of a bank. Those you can go back 7 years and claim.
It’s also too late for the IRS to review it for too little tax paid unless they can prove fraud or tax evasion. Let sleeping dogs lie in this case.
it became too late
to get a refund
