Need some advice…with this tax delay… it is crazy?

I filed my taxes on 2/3. This morning I checked WMR and it gave me the 1201 code. I called the IRS they told me it is from taxes owed in 1997. My ex husband owes 6866.00. I was relieved of this debt in 2000 by a letter received from the Dept of Treasury and have the letter giving me innocent spouse relief. The rep told me eventually I would get some money but didnt know when or how much.
I called my ex and he hasnt filed in taxes in 5 years. We divorced in 1999. He proceeds to tell me they put a lien on his house and the lien is in my name too, so I ran my credit report and now have a tax lien on my report. I am so frustrated at this point not at the IRS but at the ex and his irresponsibility. Now you know why were divorced!

My question is what do I need to do, to prove that I was relieved of the tax debt and now how do I get my money and this off my credit report?

I appreciate any help you can give me.

contact a local tax debt law firm. Ask if they are able to help in the situation. If you are divorced and you have no legal ties financially to him, I don’t see why you are being held responsible. The tax law firm could help you understand more about what is going on, and why they are penalizing you. Try the three listed below, I’ve heard good reviews over the years. Good Luck! Sorry this happen to you! =)
