₪₪₪ Question about mystery tax debt from the past and where to find answers?
Hello, My father just received a certified letter from the IRS claiming that he owes them about $14,000 in back taxes from 5-6 years ago and he has filled every year since then and nothing has ever come up. He does not think that he owes them anything, much less 14k and now he is worried they may place a lien or levy on his stuff. I have cruised around on the irs.gov site but I keep getting lost in the mix it seems like. I have read a few articles on Amazines and a website called www.1099taxdebt.com, because he said that he may have been 1099’d for some services that he did in a different state around the time the IRS is claiming and they helped some but I would like to find more information if possible that is related to my father’s employment status and health status to see what his option are. See if he has to pay that back right now or if there can be some kind of postponement. I don’t want him to have any kind of liens or levies filed against him. He has not been able to work for the past year or so due to a surgery that had a recalled part. thanks in advance for any help.
