We owe back taxes and child support arrrears, which will my tax stimulus refund pay for first?

We are paying child support arrears every week through my husband’s paycheck. Have not missed a payment. We both owe back taxes. Which will be paid for first? Also, will the IRS use the 1200 for both of us or 600 seperately since the child support is only for my husband?

whoever can get their hands on it first – have no fear – they will send you a letter to let you know where the $ was applied

Unless you filed an injured spouse form, the IRS will take any, if not all monies owed, from your stimulus check.

    Taxes first, then child support.
If you both owe, it may be in order of oldest taxes first.

Taxes first as I understand it and then child support. I am assuming that you filed married and joint here?

The taxes get first dibs at your stimulus payment. Then if there is anything left, up to the rest can be taken for the back support. Unless you file an injured spouse form, they can take your share of the stimulus payment for his back support. If you do file this form, they can’t take your share for his back support.
