what are the penalties for food stamp fraud?

when i was in the hospital having my baby i had no insurance at the time… the billing lady came to our room and told us we needed to apply for medicaid but we told her that we made too much money for it evenn though we didnt make much and she told us to say that we lived with my bfs mom and payed her rent even though we did not…well not my bfs mom is being audited by the irs and may not be able to qualify for some tax credit because they have reason to believe she was being paid rent. well i got medicaid for the baby and food stamps and now im going to have to take the fall for it.

    Not harsh enough.

Ripping off Food Stamps is ripping off the American Tax Payer.

People should go to jail for that.

Same for any other type of fraud. Hefty fine and possible jail time.

  3. Juniper says:

If you are suspected and then found guilty of welfare fraud, you will be disqualified for the aid, you will most likely have to pay back any benefit you received, and depending on the circumstances you could face jail time. I understand being anxious about the cost of medical care but lying wasn’t the way to get it.

Depends on the state you are in. Most states render recipients ineligible for a certain time frame, and disqualified permanently after subsequent infractions while ordered to pay the money back. Other states like Florida take a more stringent approach including up to jail time and a $250,000 fine.

When you commit fraud you are taking the responisibility for your criminal acts. You could have purchased your own private insurance.
